Mayor Taveras Recognizes Peace Flag Project and Declares September a Month of Peace in the City of Providence
Providence City News: Friday, August 31 2012
Earlier today, Mayor Taveras signed a proclamation proclaiming September as a Month of Peace. The Peace Flag Project, a collaborative of community organizations and nonviolent advocates, is coordinating a series of events across Rhode Island throughout September to promote peace and nonviolence, including the annual Peace Walk during Saturday’s WaterFire. A full schedule of events can be found at the 2012 Month of Peace page.
The Month of Peace builds on the work inspired by the United Nations International Day of Peace. The Peace Flag Project is supporting peaceful events focused on local projects, organizations, performances and festivals. These events serve as an important reminder that Providence is a safe city with tight knit neighbors who are committed to reducing violence and improving public safety in every neighborhood.
