Celebrate Peace! Celebrate Community!
Month of Peace in Rhode Island
September 1 to 30, 2013
The Month of Peace in Rhode Island expands our celebrations of the United Nations International Day of Peace (9/21). The Month is being organized by Ginny Fox, Executive Director of the Peace Flag Project (PFP). Joining PFP in these celebrations are many wonderful people and organizations throughout our state.
The UN International Day of Peace is a day for the people of the world to focus on peace and come together in peaceful celebrations, suspending conflict and discord. It is a day for ordinary people, not public officials or diplomats or academics, to join together for a day of harmony.
Here in RI, we have expanded the Peace Day to Peace Month to give more attention to the organizations, events and people who work for the public good throughout the year. One day just wasn’t enough.
Our Peace Month calendar includes special peace events or civic events that are reflective of a peaceful world. Please check our website and the participating organizations’ websites for updates and further details. See also The Peace Flag Project on Facebook.
